congress and series of lectures

From 14th to 18th September 2009

Renowned experts from all over the world will be meeting in Osnabrück to consider questions of peace and conflict research in archaeology. The University of Osnabrück, the city of Osnabrück and the Göttingen Academy of Science will be organising the congress.

Under the title “Rome - Imperium between Resistance and Integration” experts will be discussing the strategies of the Roman occupying power and of the respective subject societies in ancient Europe of the early Roman Imperial period, that is approximately in the 1st century AD. Amongst other subjects will be securing borders and power as well as the effects on politics and economy, social structure and religion.

A series of public lectures will accompany the congress programme. The series will be organised by the University of Osnabrück in cooperation with the city of Osnabrück.

From October 2008 to June 2009 experts will be presenting the latest findings on “The Romans and the Germanic Tribes in North West Germany”. These public lectures will be held in German.
