On a tour through the important stages of Roman history school children decide for themselves whether times of light and darkness were due to the gods, to the emperor or to the generals. At the end of the tour all of the school children will make sundials.
Wanted: Successful Commander!

tary commanders led Roman campaigns around
the Mediterranean. The tour focuses on one of these commanders: but who was he? And what was his life like? Was he really successful? Exhibits gives clues which help to complete the picture of the man we are looking for. At the end of the tour each class can stamp the initials of the commander onto 2-cent coins, which they should take with them to the exhibition.
Varus, A Model Career

The tour follows his life through the various stages of his career from Italy via North Africa and Syria to finally Germania? The Legionaries Who Disappeared

This tour follows the transport of supplies to the outpost in Haltern and looks behind the scenes in the Roman administrative and military centre. At the end of the tour everyone mints a coin bearing a portrait of Augustus.
Flying Visit to an Outpost

It is almost a miracle that Rome was able to control even the most distant provinces of a world empire – without mobile telephones and the Internet. This flying visit shows how thousands of legionaries lived in the outpost of Haltern, were supplied and upheld Roman rule.
Fenestela, Veteran of the 19th Legion
Scenic Tour for Adults (approx. 60 minutes)

The young Fenestela fought for the first time almost 25 years ago as a legionary in the 19th Legion in the Alps under the command of Publius Quincitilius Varus. Now, shortly before his discharge, the legionary will follow his commander for the last time through Germania. Fenestel takes leave of the outpost in Haltern and thinks back over a life in the shadow of the legion’s eagle.

To avoid unnecessary waiting times, groups should arrive at least 15 minutes before the booked time. All charges excl. of the admission.
Cancellation deadlines:
In the case of cancellation less than one day before the booked tour or if the group does not appear at the booked time, the whole of the fee for the tour will be charged. Groups must appear within 30 minutes of the booked time. Otherwise the tour will be cancelled and the fee charged.
